I was in a situation where I was working a minimum wage job, and a friend from high school asked me to throw her one. Asked me to buy the cake, party favors, food, everything. I was quite taken aback by her even asking, I personally wouldn't ask

I said yes because a shower isn't a necessity. Asking for one, or throwing your own makes me feel like you can't provide for your baby so you're relying on others to do it for you.

I agree that instead of putting all the responsibility on someone, you need to be the planner with someone willing to help. Also people get hung up on the definition of baby shower. It really is intended for your friends to gather and "shower" you with gifts to help alleviate the body of providing for a baby. If you are doing simply for the celebration, I would be careful to mention that it's a baby welcoming party or celebration of life.

I think it's fine depending on the relationship you have with the person. Also if you know that person is financially able to. All relationships between people are different. I wouldn't be ashamed to ask my sister to throw me one for example. I love her, she loves me and we have that kind of confidence.

I wouldn't ask someone to throw me a baby shower, instead I would ask someone for help planning one, and if they tell you they'll do it all for you, great. If not, at least you have someone to help you :)
