check up before baby?

Did you get a general check up before trying for a baby? If so did you go see an obgyn or a normal Doctor? And did it help you? Any info would greatly help!

I had what my family doctor calls a "pre-conception" check up. She checked my weight, blood pressure, took lots of blood to test for immunities (found out I am not immune to measles despite having had all my shots.) She also ran my levels (iron, B12 etc.) Found out I was very low in B12 and I started a suppliment. I conceived the next month... I don't think the check up helped me conceive but it was nice to know I was healthy.

If you've had your regular physicals and Pap smears you shouldn't need an extra appointment - just make sure you start taking prenatals right away if you aren't already (ideally its preferred that you are on them for at least 3 months before getting pregnant)

I did because insurance said I was due for one and I needed the TDAP shot, I went to a normal doctor and the check up part was pretty much pointless
