Should you feel bad for those who've died of an overdose?

Sasha

My sister just told me a kid (20-22 yrs old) just died from a heroin overdose. He's been doing it for a while and hasn't sought out help. I said that's awful and that he's so young and it's a shame. But it's so hard to feel sad/bad. I understand the addiction part, it's not easy to kick the habit once started. But that's the thing, he chose to start. He chose the heroin the first time and continued. You hear about it every day, someone died of a drug overdose. Someone being busted for selling. It's a big problem in this world, why choose to become a part of it?

I'm not talking about the families, friends, loved ones, etc. Obv that's very sad for them and I feel for them and don't wish that on anyone. They didn't choose to love someone who chose drugs, that's an entirely different opinion. I'm talking about the person themselves.
