how reliable are opks?

I have pcos. I missed AF in August. Showed up very light on Sept 1 but only lasted 3 days. I'm on cd 6 and have been having cramps on my left side all day. I did an opk and it was negative. I'm not pregnant either.  Should I BD anyway or wait for a positive?
