When is a good time?

When should we start getting baby stuff? I'm 16 weeks and all we have is a few outfits..

Answer

Any time really should be fine to get baby items. You don't need to wait to get an approval from other moms or mom-to-be. Maybe you prefer to be more prepared. Maybe you have more time to coupon. Maybe you want to be patient. Maybe you'll decide to wait until baby is here to even purchase certain items. Maybe you feel like you may have to get past the possible miscarriage stage before you feel comfortable purchasing items. It all depends on you.

If you know you'll have a tight budget, pick up things here and there. This can include deciding what's actually essential for raising your child too since most items could be considered luxury items for baby. If you feel you may be more comfortable after a baby shower(should you chose to even have one) then you can wait til then. I would strongly suggest to wait until you find out the gender before purchasing baby outfits unless you really don't care or plan to purchase neutral clothing. But yet these are all your own decisions. Do what you believe is best as the expecting parent.

I got things here and there but just the things that I knew I wouldn't get at a baby shower such as a crib or a pack and play. I left clothes and diapers to the shower and boy, good thing I did because I had two showers and my baby has so many clothes and blankets! Diapers and wipes too!

I'm 20 weeks tomorrow and we have a bunch of stuff already! We find out the gender in two weeks but have already bought so many clothes!! We don't even need clothes that are smaller than 6 months. 🙂 we also have a pack n play, crib, diaper bag, boppy, Bumbo, swing, bouncy seat, high chair, car seat and stroller. A few packs of diapers and wipes. Some pacifiers and one thing of baby wash and lotion. We aren't having a baby shower until a month or so after the baby arrives so we buy things when they are on sale, second hand, or at garage sales!

Wait til after the baby shower. Then you can figure out what you still need.
