ebf and pain meds
I had my gallbladder removed yesterday and they prescribed me Hydrocodone for the pain. My plan was to try to avoid taking it and just take Motrin but once I was awake and actually felt the pain that idea went out the door. I am currently breastfeeding and have been pumping and dumping due to the anesthesia (my dr and anesthesiologist told me I had to for 24 hours until it is fully out of my system)
As far as the pain meds, I've been given different answers from every doctor. My surgeon told me I had to pump and dump for 7 days after my last dose of the hydrocodone. Our pediatrician said only 24 hours after my last dose and my OB said I didn't have to wait at all (per their lactation specialist). I'm so nervous since everyone seems to have a different opinion and I just want to do what is safest for my baby.
The surgery was sprung on us pretty quickly and I only had a few days to pump and store so we had a little to use and have been supplementing with formula now. I just want to get back to breastfeeding my Little one and am curious if anyone had been in a similar situation with pain meds and how long they were told to wait/pump and dump
