Baby sleeping on tummy?

So was wondering why do babies sleep more when there in their stomachs? Cause i never done that to mine cause im scared but my baby sleeps on her bassinet only 2-3 hours she sleeps right away when it comes to my husband & i laying her on our chest. So why is that?
