Cramping After Membrane Sweep

I am currently 39 weeks & 4 days in my second pregnancy. Two days ago (on Wednesday afternoon) I had a doctor visit and she suggested a membrane sweep as she performed a cervical check. I agreed as baby's head is very, very low and I was 3cm dilated. Ever since the membrane sweep, I started having consistent cramping, sometimes more intense than others, but it hasn't gone away since. Clearly, this is not labor as I thought at first, being day 3 of cramping. So, any ideas as to what is going on here? Anyone else experience anything like this?
