Nicknaming your child an ugly name?

My inlaws are driving me insane!!! They call my son who's name is David doody as a nickname and it pisses me the hell off!!! I'm due with my second and they want me to honor their family and name after them but they killed all possibility of that by continuing to call my child doody to piss me off. They are aware that I hate it and im about to kill them. I told my husband im not going to see his stupid family again till they swear to stop doing it. It's ridiculous. They are Europeans and the nickname for David in Yiddish can sometimes be dudu or doody which I hate. I'm not European and to me doody =💩 how the hell do i get them to stfu and stop doing this??? I'm so pissed and thought about letting them know how they killed all chances of me naming after their family.

I think you're seriously overreacting. They have a mm affectionate name for your son, whom they love. Is it really the nickname that is pissing you off? My husband's family have nicknames for my kids and they don't bother me at all. They even call my daughter "Syl" a lot because her name is Sylvia. I understand though that they're an east coast family and out here they shorten names a lot. I think you have the right not to name your child after them, but you sound so worked up about an innocent nickname. And honestly, you're the mom, yes, but family is family. They love your son? They care about him? Choose your battles. There are so many moms and dads out there who would kill for their parents to either 1. Be alive and therefore present in their child's life or 2. Live closer to see them more frequently.

I hate to say this but your reaction is just feeding into it. And you clearly know this! It sucks that they don't see this in the same light as you. They just see it as normal, and find it funny that it bothers you. What is your husband's take on the nickname? Does he see things your way? What I'd do is sit down with them and your husband to discuss why it bothers you. Let them know you have fears that your child will be teased by other kids if they hear this nickname. And we all know he will. Framing it in terms of how it might hurt your child might yield better results. Because right now they just view it as you being offended by one of their traditional nicknames. Good luck!

That's nothing to be mad about. If it's their way let them can't change something that's a custom for them. . My grandma called my daughter La Tuna becuase she couldn't say her name and even called her this after she could say her name.

My son is Gabriel. 
His pawpaw (my MIL husband) calls him Otis since birth. I use to get mad like damn that isn't his name but it is a joke and now my son tells him "that's not my name!"  So it's funny. Plus they don't see him much so I'm not mad at it.

I think it is fine so long as in their culture it is a respectful name.

In my husband's culture, penises are called diamonds...  So my I laws posted that there's going to be another precious diamond.  At first I thought this was sexual and creepy, but it is just the culture and I have learned to laugh about it.

They also say caca for garbage, and In other places it means crap or shit.... But again, I don't worry, because I know they mean well and are very loving.
