Had a miscarriage on Friday, how long do I have to wait to have sex again?

My husband and I went to the OB today and he said there was nothing left in my uterus and that my HCG levels should be about 0 by now, but I forgot to ask him about having sex. We were advised not to TTC until after my first regular period, which is fine, but my husband would like to have sex again, preferably without a condom, which I am worried about ONLY because of the possibility of contracting an infection. Is it safe or should we just use condoms for the time being? What have been your experiences?
