Do you think you should have to pass your state's standardized tests to pass high school?

It really isn't that hard. It's basic knowledge a high school student should be able to know the end of the school year. I was a pretty bad student throughout high school and I passed. Diplomas are certificates of knowledge where jobs can see you have a certain basic set of skills you know and learned at school. Just like any othe certificate people go to school for

I cheated on mine, I'm not dumb, I'm just so bad with tests. The math is where I would have failed. Not proud of this, but it was the only way I would have passed.

Standardized testing is stupid. All we're taught in school now is how to pass a test.

My problem was I knew all the material but suck at taking test. I had to redo the math twice.

I don't have anything like in Australia. In our last year of school we must do four subjects, five if you include research project but most do that in year 11 now. You'll have an exam for the subjects you chose (not for research project though), some classes don't have exams though, and depending on your grades for those classes and you exam results make up your ATAR, which then shows you what courses you can apply for if you chose to go on into uni.

I have done ok with standardized test because they made us study all the time. Because they felt like they had to be the best. I'm glad that it wasn't a requirement to pass in order to go to the next grade because there have been mornings where I didn't enough sleep or a had a rough time at home so I would go to school and be completely lost.

Heaven help us if teachers have to start grading on feelings and impressions of a student's ability. There has to be some measure of completion... We may not agree with the quality of a state's standard, but one cannot set a goal without an OBJECTIVE way define success.
