Vitamins???

Question

Other than pre-natal what vitamins should I be taking??? I'm 5w 3d, I haven't been to my doctor yet so I wasn't sure if there was anything else I should be taking??

Once pregnant you NEED to ask your OB about vitamins you can take with the prenatals.  For now only take prenatals.

I take vitamin D and Garlic only because I am severely deficient in D, and my immune system needed the garlic to help with a little boost.  Both were approved by doctor first.

Just eat well, make sure to get lots of protein, calcium, and fat since that's what baby is made of! I've heard mixed reviews on the effectiveness of vitamins and pills so  I think a good prenatal is plenty. You can't get better than a healthy and diverse diet and lots of water 💗 congratulations!

My doc told me to take vitamin D to boost the immune system.
BEFORE YOU TAKE FOLIC ACID... roughly 40% of the population has a mutation on tech MTHFR gene.  The worse the mutation (homozygous as opposed to heterozygous), the more inefficiently the body converts folic acid (synthetic version of folate) into methylfolate. The danger is that unconverted folic acid stays in the bloodstream for up to 100 days and further impairs your body's ability to absorb natural folate which occurs in foods. My doc had me tested, and it turns out I have one of the more severe mutations.
Taking folic acid with this mutation can result in miscarriage, autism, or birth defect. If you have the mutation, you absolutely must take a prenatal with methylfolate.  These are not cheap, but better for you and baby.  Please get tested!

I was only taking prenatals for a few months then I added in Fish Oil for the omega 3. After I had my GD test it was recommended that I take iron as well. 
So for now, just take your prenatals.

I take my prenatals, cranberry extract pills (to avoid uti) vitamin E and wild salmon oil for brain development

Make sure the prenatal vitamins have FOLIC ACID. and take IRON PILLS.

Good prenatals are all you really need unless your dr recommends you take something else along with it.
