Anyone give birth with older sibling in the room?

Weather it be home birth, birth center or hospital... anyone have your older child with? I have a 4 yr old.. and im moving cross country right before due date, wont know anyone to watch my daughter... anyone else been in a situation like this?

My 2.5 year old is going to be there at this birth. I'm delivering at a birth center and the place has two rooms so I'm going to let my daughter wander wherever she wants to and choose if she wants to watch or be in the tub with me. My mother in law will be there (hopefully) to be there for my daughter if she needs comforting.

I would love for my son to be there! I'm not sure if the hospital here would allow it and there are no midwives around (otherwise i would do a home birth). When baby number two is born will be the first time I'll be spending the night away from my little guy.. He'll be almost 18 months at the time and I really don't want to leave him for a night or two😕

The younger the more they might be traumatized seeing their mother in that much pain. The best of luck with everything!

I was there for my brothers birth at 3 (almost four, as my bday was two days after his). There was no hiding anything from me, as he started coming out in the elevator ride up to L&D, but honestly, it wasn't too bad for me. I imagine you won't have your daughter on the vaginal end of things lol, so it could honestly be a really good learning experience - at least you'll never have to stumble through the "where do babies come from" question 😂

I haven't but my cousin has and when i have my second child i sure ill have my first child in the room

My oldest son was at the delivery of his brother... They were both at the delivery of their sister.. then my parents had the 2 younger ones so my oldest was at the delivery of my 4th. They were all at school when the 5th was born.  My son was amazing and was right there ready to help. He helped cut the umbilical cord and everything.  Helps that he was raised on the farm maybe  and has been asssisting with birthing goats and cows since he was a baby watching from his buggy. It will be fine im sure.
