Are Breast feeding classes worth it?

I would probably only take one done by an IBCLT (international board certified lactation consultant).  Breastfeeding is a learned thing, and the best way to learn is to see it. 
As an alternative to a class, La Leche League International (LLLI.org) is a great resource; they also publish a book called The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding. Another good book, published by the American Academy of Pediatrics, is New Mother's Guide to Breastfeeding.

If they are included in a birthing class, sure, but I would never take one pre baby. Breastfeedings kind of a 'hands on' experience. There's only so much you can teach before baby arrives. There are nurses in the hospital that can help, and la leche leagues or equivalents that can help once baby is here.

In my experience no, it wasn't worth it. All the latching techniques i was taught were apparently wrong, and the midwife kept shoving him on my boob for me, making me do it her way. Made me think what the hell did i waste my money on if they dont teach you properly. And this class was run by the hospital i birthed in, you'd think they'd teach what they practice. They also never taught anything about tongue or lip ties, or flat or inverted nipples either, which was relevant to me as i have flat nipples (not that i knew this, or even knew this problem existed until a week after bub was born and the home nurse mentioned it in passing - didn't explain it all, but at least i had something to search google for now). Your better off just seeing a lactation consultant both before and then with bub in the hospital, get any potential problems dealt with before they actually become problems.

If you're a first time mom yes, it's not as easy as some people think so getting a little knowledge before hand can be very helpful. But if you don't your hospital should have a Lactation consultant there after baby is born to help you if you need it.

I voted yes.  I'm currently pregnant with our 4th baby (others children are ages 9, 8, and 4).  I successfully breastfed both of my youngest until they were around 13 months old.  I attended a breastfeeding class for all of my babies.  I think it is great as a refresher especially if the baby does something different that you didn't experience with the other baby or if there is a problem.  I will be enrolling in our local class soon!
