Were your nipples sore after your first day breastfeeding?

breastfeeding?" /> My baby is only 20 hours old and has fed about every 2-3 hours and my nipples are already swollen and so sore. I'm using coconut oil and the nurses have helped me with my latch. Just wondering if this is normal.

Yes! My left nipple was so sore I couldn't let her touch it for days I had to pump from the left and breastfeed from the right. It was awful but my nipple toughened up and 2 months later we got this down pat. Lol

I only breast fed for 24 hours due to how painful it was. From what I hear now it is normal, someone I know said it took 11 weeks to get to a point where it wasn't painful and was more natural. I wish someone had told me, I kept thinking it wasn't normal. I was in so much pain, combined with being ill and weak after losing so much blood I started to not look forward to the only interaction with my son so decided to stop (I had to have help just holding him). The nurses kept telling me to count through the first ten seconds and it'd get better, it didn't, but they assured me his latch was good. 6 weeks on I still wish I had persisted and someone had reassured me it was normal. So be stronger than me, try for a little while longer if it's something you really want to do.

Try ice pack as well, they have cooking gel pads that help a ton. It will get easier, good luck and congratulations!!🍾

Oh it's so painful! Give it a few weeks and you won't notice if, but my god it hurts in the beginning. Use nipple cream, it helps.
