Women with absent fathers/ truck drivers daughters

Hi. I have an 8 month old daughter who I am always worrying about. Her father and I are married but he isn't bothered to care for her, spend time with her, etc. I thought all of this would get better the older and more independent my daughter got but now she's literally almost walking and getting him to play with her is still like pulling teeth. Anyways, here's my dilemma. He is a truck driver and is wanting to go over the road for a year. I don't think it's a great idea since my baby is still growing up and I think that a child's first years are vital for forming relationships with parents. They're only small once, you know? I'd hate for him to miss out but he really doesn't care. My question is, if you had an absent father or are a truck drivers daughter, how has it affected you? Do you think I am over reacting? Should I let him go?
