How much?

How many newborn clothes/diapers does baby actually need? We wash about once a week & don't want to waste money buying anymore things if he won't wear them. We have plenty of 0-3 & 3months.

Should we play it by ear after he arrives?

We had about $200 worth in every size.
Then my son was born early and we had absolutely nothing to fit him. 😣 so we went and brought him about 9 different outfits, 5 sleeping suits and a box of prem nappies.
Breastfed babies use about 8-10 nappies a day.

I would start with enough to get you through 2 weeks that way you have plenty. I would really leave tags on about half just in case baby is big. I ended up having to buy more nb because our little guy was 7lbs and was in nb for dang near 2 months. He was a scrawny little thing and most 0-3 were to big.

My baby isn't here yet but I've done a lot of research on this and everyone says not to get a lot because they grow out of nb clothes so fast! Some babies are born already not fitting into them so I got a couple things but not a whole bunch :) and I got a couple packs of nb diapers because they don't use them for long either

I'm pregnant with baby number 3. In my experience don't overload on nb size items. They outgrow them so quickly, some babies can't even wear them at birth! ( I have a friend all 3 of her came home in 0-3 months!)

We get a case of newborn diapers, and the rest sizes 1, and 2. 
We get one pack onesies in newborn and 3-4 newborn outfits, and that's it.

FTM so I don't know but my friend just had a baby and is shocked that her 2 weeks-old girl is plowing through diapers like a champ (30 every 48 hours 😳😬).

I have 1 case of NB diapers, the rest are size 1 & 2 but mostly 1. His closet is completely filled with clothes but only 10-12 NB items, everything else is 3 months to 12 months. I have a drawer full of baby socks all sizes, white tshirt onsies all sizes. I'm not limiting in what I buy because he'll be born in the middle of winter here in Chicago and I'd rather have more of what I don't use then need something and not have it. There are plenty of stores that Buy Baby items and I plan on selling whatever we don't use next summer
