What do you think about using plastic tablecloths at a wedding reception?

I'm trying to figure out what to do about tablecloths for my reception. I just hate how expensive linen tablecloths are to rent. 
Has anyone used plastic ones? Or is that tacky? Would it look stupid?

Depends on venue and what other decorations look like. It sounds tacky to me if your wedding is in a reception hall or nice event space, however if it's in a park or backyard or barn it seems to fit.

Is it an outdoor wedding? How formal is it? I think sometimes plastic ones can look fine! But for some themes they're not really appropriate.

It's up to you. I went cheap on EVERYTHING but table clothes and chair covers lol! It's the one thing I felt I had to spend money on to be able to fool them with the rest. Dollar store vases and such.

I personally would not, but I guess it depends on the overall aesthetic of the wedding. You could probably buy table cloths for less than the rental costs. Rental costs figure in delivery, laundering, etc. Check thrift stores, discount stores, etc. not sure if they have SAMs club where you are but I think they sell them for relatively cheap in bulk. Think outside the box, maybe go to a discount fabric store and make your own or you could find cheap flat sheets that may work.

Really depends on the venue. I've seen some beautiful table setting inspirations with  placemats. Not sure if there are good options for bulk buys of placemats but, just a thought. Happy planning!
