Taking a break

Just wanted some advice. My boyfriend and I just broke up and pretty torn up about it but he just needs some time to figure things out and I asked him would we ever get back together and he wasn't sure yet. We did long distance and once I go back home to Texas where he's at too, we told each other we would talk then and see where it goes. He told me he never wants to lose me and hearing him struggle with this and crying hurts me too. But I just wanted opinions on this. I promise he's not a jerk. I still love him very much
