Drug testing new borns?

Out of curiousity, does the Nicu drug test breast fed babies in NYC? Some of these women don't look so sober.... (Not judging).

Not to be crude but most African American and other ethnic women are automatically drug tested without consent here in NYC regardless if they have a CPS case or not.

- They test the child first poop to verify drug use which can be detected far back as 20wks of pregnancy.

I'm sure every hospital has their own rules but my son was in the nicu and they drug tested both me and my son.

Usually a hospital will test if you or baby shows signs of withdrawal- or- if children's services are involved already and request it. They also do drug tests if the baby is born early because drugs can induce a preterm birth. I believe they just want to rule it out as a possibility as to why the baby was born early if there isn't an obvious sign.

Going to depend on Hospital policy, but I'd think they would. Especially NICU babies.
