Is herd immunity real?

Sorry my last poll was a bit confusing haha! I read it again and realized how dumb it sounded. But someone told me herd immunity was fake, what do you think?

Herd immunity is what protects those people who are unable to be vaccinated (the elderly, infants, and people with certain diseases or disorders). If enough people are vaccinated, diseases have a much harder time getting a foothold even in the unvaccinated population.

Unfortunately, more people are opting out of vaccinations than usual, and many areas are dropping below the percentages needed for herd immunity to truly occur.

Take a biology class and tell me it's not real. If you don't understand how organisms mutate to survive then you don't grasp the concept and should sit down and shut up.

I would love to know the medical and scientific qualifications of the 20% who thinks it's not real. And Fox News and 'done my research on google" don't count.

I think people being vaccinated is greatly important for those who cannot  in protecting certain illness and disease. However  what about zoonosis and other vectors that can carry and transmit disease. So no I don't think herd immunity is 100% going to guarantee unvaccinated people don't get sick, but it prevents alot.

The ide is that enough people are immune to a disease it won't spread.  Which is indeed the case. But you need high rates of immunity to achieve herd immunity. In places where vaccination is not common the immunity rates fall too low which is why you get outbreaks.

No, at least not in the vaccinated population. Herd immunity is a theory that was developed for life long natural immunity. If it were, then China which has a vaccination rate of 99% would not have outbreaks of vaccine targeted disease, but they do.
