Cervical check?

My doctor checked my cervix today. Has anyone had that throw them into labor?

Mine did! Had mine checked yesterday and about 2 hours after I started having strong contractions about 5 mins apart. Went to L&D and im in labor. Ordered on bedrest and got a steroid shot for his lungs. They arent gonna stop labor, bedrest until I progress more and have been having consistent contractions since. I go back to L&D at 6 tonight for more tests, nst and another steroid shot. Also accelerated dialation from 2-3 cm.

My doc checked me at my 34 week appt after i said i was feeling increased pressure and more than usual braxton hicks. It was so uncomfortable when he checked! Everything was good tho! But after that i researched cervical checks and come to find out that unless there are complications that indicate a check, there is not benefit to them and they can actually risk sweeping or even rupturing your membranes sending u into labor. Cervical checks also increase ur risks of infections! I refuse the routine cervical check at my last appt at 36 weeks and doc was ok with it. Checking for dilation doesnt have any benefits because u can be completely closed until a few hours before birth or opened to 4 cm for weeks !

Cervical checks are unlikely to cause labor. You can have cramping and spotting, but the cervix is a vascular organ so touching it usually upsets it. But labor is caused by more than just touching the cervix.
