HCG was 20,985 at 5w4d????? high?? I'm now 6w1d and still stressing

Is this normal??

My first pregnancy with my now 11 month old son I was only 370 at 6 weeks.

With my 2nd pregnancy, I was only 1,000 at 6 weeks. (Miscarried at 9 weeks) I think it was due to the fact that I was only 8 weeks postpartum.

Now I'm pregnant with my 3rd and I am currently 6w1d. But a couple of days ago I found out my HCG was 20,985 from 5w4d. I was so happy and excited and immediately thought (twins!!!) because my whole family is twins. My grandmother, my aunt is a twin, my brother is also. Literally every one has twins in my family. So that was my intitial thought. But then I read about molar pregnancies. And high HCG could indicate Down syndrome. Now my exciteness is gone. My Ultrasound isn't till the 21st , but of course I'm impatient.

I called my doctors office and the nurse on the phone told me that the doctors aren't concerned they are only concerned about low HCG levels. But as I'm reading other woman's stories.. their doctors all seem concerned when numbers are TOO high! Especially in the 5th week.

I also know exactly when I ovulated so I'm not wrong on my dates! My last period was Sep 1st and I ovulated on the 16th, confirmed by OPKs!

Anyone else have such large HCG numbers early on?

Do any of you think it's twins especially with my family being almost all twins?

Im on a very similar situation.  My hcg levels are way to high. Based on my lmp i was suppose to be 7 weeks. But had an ultrasound three days ago and all they could see was a yolk sac. And it was measuring at 5 weeks and 4 days. They werent unable to find a fetus.  I had gone to the er room the day after i found out i was pregnant due to bleeding and cramping. So they put me at risk of miscarriage or possible  ectopic pregnancy.   I did some research about high hcg levels and i read about the mollar pregnancy which made me worried.  Im stressing a bit but im trying to stay possitive. My Ob called me today and he wants for me to get another ultrasound done and he wants to see me.  Im praying to God that everything is ok and this is a healthy pregnancy.   Good luck to you girl. I had a friend who had what they believed was a partial molar pregnancy ( she didn't have cancer - thank God) but her hCG at 6 weeks was 150k... I know it's hard not to worry but with your family I'd say twins way more likely!
