safety monitors?

As I'm working on my registry, I've come across some baby safety monitors - Snuza, MonBaby Smart Button baby monitor, Baby Vida oxygen monitor, etc. They have good reviews and people seem to like them, but are they worth the money? Obviously we all survived our infant years without them! But of course, having the peace of mind and safety is a good thing too.

I've bought an angelcare movement and sound monitor.  It wasn't much more expensive than a regular sound only monitor and I know a few people who have used them and been very happy and felt reassured by it. 
As far as the argument 'they didn't have them when we were babies and we survived' goes - yes, we survived but obviously not everyone did and those that were lost aren't here. I stopped breathing in my crib as a baby and it's through luck alone that my mom checked on me at the right moment and I was resuscitated. If she'd checked a few minutes earlier or later I wouldn't be here. I don't want to rely on luck with my baby and I'm willing to cope with false alarms and a bit of added cost.

We're buying the Owlet. 
Is it necessary? No.

But frankly, $250 is a good investment if it saves my son's life by alerting me to an issue with his oxygen levels or heartrate.

And it's a worthy investment if it gives me peace of mind.

I hope that he will never have issue, but I also know it will give me sound mind to sleep - I worry about everything, so I know I will likely hover over him to check his breathing constantly without it. Peace of mind and potentially life saving - it is a purchase that just makes sense for me (and this applies to any of those monitors; we just chose Owlet).

If someone else bought it for us I may try it out but I wouldn't bother getting one. Most reviews I read said they liked to give false alarms and can easily fall off or even run against the skin and irritate it. 
So I didn't even put it on our list. Even with that monitor you'll probably get up and check them yourself anyway
