Well wasn't expecting to be a mummy until October 30th but baby Ariana (Ari) had other ideas
Here's my FTM birth story-
Baby Ariana arrived at 4.01pm on Tuesday weighing 6.13 - and almost 3 weeks early.
Tuesday 11th October, 37 weeks plus 3, decided to eat a huge breakfast watching come dine with me when whoosh waters broke
We were meant to see the consultant that day re breech birth options at 1.30pm as had it confirmed on the Friday she was as breech as can be - but this over rode that!
Called labour line who said come in ASAP, but as hubby was stuck traffic I tried to stay calm and finished packing and had a shower.
By time hubby got home, packed his bag etc my contractions had started. Only very mild period pain and irregular.
Arrived at hospital at 11 and queued for a car par space!
Once in the maternity ward I was taken straight into a birthing Suite for monitoring. Baby was very happy but fluid had well and truly gone so c sec required before labour progressed too far. Problem was due to being a breakfast piggy I had to wait until 3pm for operational safety.
Had bloods taken , canula inserted (worst bit of the whole thing as I hate needles!!) , new scan to make sure still breech, anti sickness tablets, then hubby gowned up and off we went to the operating theatre.
Don't be surprised by his many people are in the room ! It's surreal!
Walking into the room felt so scary I used some breathing techniques and basically prayed. Hubby was great in keeping my mind off what was happening.
The team were amazing and light hearted which helped. I had the spinal block. It didn't hurt at all and worked very quickly.
The operation was a blur, hubby was there at all times and I felt nothing but tugging sensation.
She was handed to daddy and a few minutes later they took us all to recovery. He still cut the cord just not out of me.
After 4 hours in post op bay and some tea and toast (which was amazing) we moved into our own room.
I had a catheta so decided to not stand until next day. I drank lots and luckily my colostrum came straight in. No pain as block still working and you can have oral morphine every 2 hours.
Standing up and having the different tubes removed were way better than expected and I think that's because I breathed through everything - not tensed. I also took full advantage of the drugs!
We decided to go home on the Thursday only 48 hours later. Could have stayed in but was coping without morphine and nothing like your own bed and bathroom. I'm having to inject anti blood clotting every morning which isn't very nice and pain is tolerable if I take the meds.
So today 4 days post birth day, sitting on my bed snuggling with my baby I feel very lucky, happy if not a little sore still - but overall glad I had no birth plan other than to get her here safe
