Let me tell you that a pacifier is a MILLION times better than thumb sucking. I wish my daughter had taken to a pacifier because it was easy to wean my oldest off it at 2, but she sucked her thumb until she was 12 and the dental bills are going to be brutal. Once the last of her baby teeth come out she will need braces.

No, I was determined not to give my son one, but he was colicky and after bottles he would cry and I assumed he was still hungry when really he just needing the comfort of a dummy. He would cry for hours through the night and it wasn't fair on him, so I decided to give him one. And now at 4 months old he barely uses😊

I have seen 6 and 7 year old sucking pacifiers and I'm not a fan of that old.

I refused a plug and when she started on the thumb it was promptly pulled out. I'm happy to say I didn't have to ween off of plug or thumb:)

Kinda. Some people use it as a last resort when they did everything else; some just pop it in their mouth when they don't wanna hear them.

Of course not! Babies often need comfort in the form of sucking, that's why babies tend to sometimes suck either nipple/bottle teat without milk coming out or dummy/pacifier. Sometimes they use their thumb, it's a comfort thing.

I didn't want my baby to have one but in hospital he was really poorly and I couldn't hold him except during breastfeeding. I absolutely cried my eyes out at the thought of him having no comfort at all during the 2.5 hours he wasn't feeding or being changed so I gave him his dude and that made me feel 100x better. He still has it now sometimes 3 months on but only if he's struggling as he's now teething really early! But I don't think it's lazy, I only do it for more comfort for him and I only give him his dude when he's really upset and I've tried everything before!
