Is a humidifier necessary?

Question

Why are they needed? I just realized I forgot to get one and am wondering how necessary they are.  I live in South louisiana, so I really hate making anything more humid than it already is

Depends on where you live. If it's dry and cold, or dry and hot, then absolutely. Even in cold wet climates like Oregon they're a must; they help preventing colds and congestion, as well as keep the baby climate-controlled, as it were.

It really depends on where you live and what the natural humidity is like. I grew up in Alberta, Canada and it's very dry there, especially in the winter so a humidifier was really helpful (when I visit there now I get severe sinus pain and nose bleeds because it's so dry - I have to use a saline mist all the time).  I live in the UK now where the natural humidity is much higher and I wouldn't buy one here.

I personally don't think you have to have one. I never used one when I had my daughter, we also lived in South Carolina at the time. This time around I did go buy one because we live in Alaska and the winters are sooooo incredibly dry, we can hardly handle it. I got one for every room!

If you live somewhere cold,  yes it's necessary.  With the heat blasting through the winter months,  the air gets really dry.  However,  if you are in a warm climate,  I don't see a need for one.
