second hand or brand new?

Question

I'm almost due to give birth to my first child, and everyone had been criticising me because I bought EVERYTHING brand new.  I worked hard for my money, I want for my baby to have nice things, I don't see the problem in my baby having nice things, nor brand new things? I deserve it, my baby deserves it, if I don't want to accept second hand things I shouldn't have to should I? Or is that extremely rude?

Nice things and second hand things don't have to be the opposite of each other. There are plenty of nice fairly new things that I have received from friends and family. But, if buying brand-new things this something you want to do or not or if you want to do and should do. Your mom. Who gives a damn what anyone else says.

It's completely your decision. Personally I have some of both because they grow too fast. But don't let anyone bring you down for choosing to buy new.

If you can afford it, you do whatever you want. For me, I get annoyed isn't the right word, but we'll go with it, with new parents who buy everything brand new and can't afford it, then are like, "we can't afford x,y&z now!" That's just bad budgeting.
Most of my little aliens things are new except the clothes: nearly 99.9% of his clothes have been from the thrift store or free from a thrift store like place (it's a military thing). That's where we chose to save money because babies grow so quickly and their clothes can get expensive. We also plan on having at least one more, so it'll be passed down to them. But it also allowed us to buy other things new as well.
So again, if you can, you buy your baby whatever the hell you want. Don't let anyone make you feel bad for it.
As for not accepting second hand things, just be like, "i really appreciate this, but i honestly do not need it. You should hold on to it for someone who will or donate it."

My first child I had almost all hand me downs because we couldn't afford it, for this one, I've been buying new stuff, because we can afford it, even though I have everything I need, I just want to replace it. I never got the chance to have the nice things I wanted, the nice nursery, decor, stroller, etc. My sister's gave me everything they had from their babies, and now they ask me, "well what's wrong with what I had?" Well its about 7 years old!!

Not rude at all, especially since most babies spit up breast milk on things and have blowouts.  I don't want all those germs around.  Plastic toys that I can wash are fine, but nothing with fabric!

It's not rude at all! I'm being the same way bc when I had my first child at 16 everything I had for him was used bc I obviously dint have the money..11 yrs later and baby brother on the way, I'm buying everything brand new and I'm excited I get to pick out what I want this time around.. .

You  do whatever you want. It is you money, your baby and your life. People should not have a saying on this.
