Vaping and pregnancy!

Melissa

The amount of people vaping has been increasing at a incredible rate over the last year. Many people have their own reasons for how they started, whether it is to kick cigarettes or to just hop off the nicotine.

Following my first pregnancy, I was completely unable to find any information regarding vaping and pregnancy. Even my doctor had no clue that nicotine-free was an option. So I thought; why not google some stuff and throw it in a post for all of my fellow vape family ☺

First off, vape juice can be made up of a few ingredients: nicotine, vegetable glycerin, propylene glycol, flavor, and distilled water.

Nicotine is optional in juice! However if you choose to use nicotine, there is a chance it can disturb your pregnancy.

"Nicotine is an addictive substance that is toxic to reproduction and interferes with fetal brain development. It may also adversely affect fetal lung development and increase the risk of SIDS" -APA

"Nicotine narrows your blood vessels, which means that less oxygen and fewer nutrients reach your baby via the placenta." -Baby Centre

Smoke/Vapor is another topic, however, I had a couldn't find anything regarding how it plays a role on the baby at all other then what ingredients are in it.

Propylene glycol is a very borderline discussion, I found http://www.livestrong.com/article/234677-propylene-glycol-side-effects/ a very large article showing the side effects. But I couldn't find the side effects if it was inhaled not consumed. There is 100% organic juice available, without propylene glycol, so check the ingredients!
