Pacifier Yes or No?!

So I'm a ftm  my daughter is now 4 weeks and I'm breastfeeding I just started introducing her to the bottle at east one bottle a day or anytime we go out. Idk whether I should start giving her a pacifier sometimes I feel like I'm over feeding her bc I nurse her to sleep sometimes nursing helps to soothe her I feel like she may not even be hungry at times. I don't want to cause her to start whining and crying g for a pacifier either or wanting it on her mouth all the time she's generally pretty good and doesn't whine or cry a lot unless she needs something sometimes she gets fussy while we're out but I just got know whats best, should I wait awhile or just not even worry about a pacifier??!

She's old enough if you do decide to give her a pacifier, my pediatrician recommended to wait until 3 weeks. I ended up giving my little one a paci because she'll use my boob as one at night and it can be absolutely exhausting sometimes. I did feel guilty at first because I felt like my baby gave me the saddest little face once she realized what was happening lol. She only uses it a night though if she gets overly tired and has a hard time falling asleep so I don't suspect we'll have any issues getting rid of it at some point - she spits it out once she's asleep anyway.

Honestly, I think the whole worry about nipple confusion is kind of overblown. I don't see any harm in at least trying a pacifier, especially if you think she's just nursing for comfort and isn't actually hungry. Babies are soothed by sucking on something, that's a biological fact. You can't really overfeed her if you're breastfeeding but it is a pain for you to have to just sit there as a human pacifier!

One trick if you suspect she's comfort-nursing is to offer your knuckle to suck on instead. If she's happy to suck on that, then she's not hungry. In that case, you could try a pacifier if you want.

I didn't want to give my baby a pacifier right away, because i was afraid she'd get obsessed with it and then she'd still be using it when she was 3. But my boobs were so damaged right from the start that I could not let her suck if she wasn't eating. Unfortunately, she wouldn't take the stupid pacifier anyway! Finally, weeks later, we found one she liked, but she'll still only use it to fall asleep. Never when she's awake, never while she's actually sleeping. So I guess I worried for nothing.

Anyway, tl;dr: Go ahead and try a paci if you want. You can always take it away later, they can't really form habits at this age.

My son was the same way. Because of terrible engorgement I introduced a bottle at 2 weeks. He was constantly comfort nursing and I was exhausted, so I thought a pacifier would help. I tried every pacifier I could find and he wouldnt take ANY of then. He's now almost 4 months old and eating more regulary. The only time he comfort nurses now is usually at night before bed. He actually like sucking/chewing on his lovey or fingers for comfort now.

You can't over feed her. Try one if you feel it'll help, I've tried and tried and my baby girl will not take one unfortunately but she doesn't have a bottle either.

You can't over feed a breastfeed baby, they nurse for comfort.

I would just keep doing what you're doing without a pacifier.
