mucus plug?

Yesterday after I wiped, I noticed a VERY small piece of what looked like tissue, that had some red spots to it. Could this be part of my mucus plug? I have my next midwifes appointment tomorrow so I'm going to bring it up but thoughts I'd see what you ladies though! It's our first pregnancy so I don't know what to expect!
