back pain

So I'm 38 weeks 4 days, I have had constant throbbing back pain ALL day. I still have it and it's still coming and going every couple of minutes. Then earlier had a couple of real contractions very close together then those kinda went away and only came here and there. But my back pain never went away. Could his be back labor? I called my on call doctor and told me not to come in unless my contractions are 3 mins apart for 2 hours. Is it possible to be in labor without the contractions? Should I just wait to go in and see if I get real contractions? I'm so uncomfortable, trick or treating earlier deff made it more intense lol.
