TTC.. irregular cycle

My husband and I are TTC our first child! I had a 3mm cyst on my ovary in September which caused AF to be late... well I started 8 days late in October! Went to OB GYN today and she stated I she would help me with when I am ovulating by doing a blood test! I don't want to sound silly or weird but I don't know when I am ovulating! I got clear blue ovulating test kit to try, has anyone ever used those and got pregnant? I just got off AF on Saturday, when should I start using the ovulating kit??? It is best to BD every other day??
