birth control "shot"

Hey guys, I've gotten the birth control shot here recently (I started my period literally RIGHT BEFORE the Pap smear and initial shot.. so embarrassing.) and I haven't stopped bleeding since. My gyno said I may spot for awhile, but I'm bleeding as if I'm having a fairly heavy period. Any advice, opinions, or comments? Should I be worried? Please share your experiences!
