help! I don't know what to do!?

Okay ladies I need some help. My mom bought this like years ago at a charity auction and had always hoped I'd use this (only child). I just don't know how safe this is or how I feel and I reallllyyyy don't want to hurt my moms feelings. I know she paid a lot for this and was so excited. Thanks for thoughts and opinions!!

Update: my mom has found a baby mattress that does fit this and has ordered it. So no worries about that. And yes it has a pin you can remove to have it rock back and forth.

Maybe just keep it in the nursery? Or have newborn pictures taken in it? You can put all the stuffed animals in there.

My in laws bought something like this. They couldn't find a mattress for it, but we put done blankets in it & sometimes put our son in it. We always keep an eye on him though since he's surrounded by blankets. I thought the idea of using it for stuffed animals & toy storage was cute, too.

I would love to have something like this. You got the mattress ordered which I knew you could and it's gonna be great. My stepson from my first marriage gave me his bassinet from my granddaughters (Yes ,, that sounds weird to me too. 😂)   Or I  was going to find one similar.

My husband's whole family (his dad is the oldest of 9) have all used one like this that his grandfather made. We're talking over 50 babies in it through the generations and years. Never had an issue and loved it for the soft rocking it did. However, as with all baby equipment, it's really up to you if you feel comfortable using it. Good luck!

There has to be a way to determine if it's safe. But you have to decide if it's a safety issue, or if you just don't want to use it. We used a bassinet from my in laws that my FIL and grandpa made. I wasn't crazy about it, but it was useful. It was one less thing for us to buy. But we still had to find a mattress pad and sheets.  LO used it for about 8 weeks.

Does it rock? I think it will be hard to find a custom sized mattress for it..but should be fine to use as long as the mattress is a tight fit, no gaps.

Id use it the first two months! That thing is sweet! I love it ! Find a tight fitting mattress and use away! Aftwr two months id switch to the pack n play or crib, whichever you decide.
