What the heck is "bacterial vaginosis" ??

I was having itching and I thought it was a yeast infection so I went to my doctor and I was diagnosed with it.

I only have had sex with my boyfriend of 1 and a half years and we never have cheated on each other..

So..any ideas ?

Yeast infection is a fungal infection, you have a bacterial infection. Not from sex. Chill!

BV is super common as are frequent yeast infections. It's an overgrowth of bacteria. Not really sure of the cause. Here are my best tips that I got from a sexual health nurse:

1. Don't wear thongs. They expose more of your vaginal area to your pants. Most people don't wash (their pants) every day which can have a lot of bacteria from sweat, etc on them.

2. Don't wash your vulva area with soap in the shower. It cleans itself and soap can cause yeast infections by disturbing the natural balance of bacteria down there.

3. Dry your vagina with a hair dryer. Even a little bit of extra moisture left over from the shower can cause bacteria overgrowth. Using a hair dryer gets the area very dry and will help. Only use the low heat as you don't want to burn yourself.

4. Ask your doctor about taking acidophilus pills. For me they really helped with the constant yeast infections. You can get them in the vitamin section of the grocery store.

5. Try non-latex condoms. It turns out I don't do well with latex and this made a huge difference for me.

6. If you use bubble bath or scented shower products this may also be the culprit. Some people are extra sensitive to scented products.

7. If you wear leggings as pants like I do this could also cause issues. The vagina needs room to breathe and tight pants also contribute to excess moisture.

8. Sleep without underwear. Wear loose pants if you like, but for me sleeping with nothing on my lower half really helps.

9. Best tip! If you wear Victoria's Secret or La Senza underwear, try a different brand! They cause abnormal discharge and funky smells in myself and a few women I know. My favourite brand is Change,  an 85% nylon and 15% spandex blend. I got my sister to try this brand after years of having yeast infections and she said it made a huge difference.

It's not sexually transmitted at all. It's just an infection of the bacteria or flora in your vagina. Good luck, reoccurring ratesare extremely   high
