So I am getting my first lovely period but I wanted to know about ovulation. Does it happen during your period, after your period, or before. In general I want to know how ovulation works.

Technically it happens after your period. The day your period starts is day 1 of your cycle, and most women who have 28 day cycles ovulate around day 14. It can be earlier or later for some women. The only way to really know it to test for ovulation monthly and see if there is any consistency from month to month.
