irrational fear or no?

I have no idea why but my biggest fear in my pregnancy is that the umbilical cord is going to get tangled around my babies neck and I'll have no way to tell. is this a common occurance? Does anyone else fear this?

OMG! Yes!! I am driving myself crazy with this. My niece was born at 33 weeks with the cord around her neck, they had to do cpr but in the end she survived. My neighbour lost her baby girl a week before the due date due to umbilical cord strangulation. And I also have the daughter of a friend, her son died 2 days before the due date because of the same issue. 
   I am now 29w4d and I am terrified that the same thing will happened to my baby. I told my doctor about it and she said that is very common and unfortunately there is nothing she can do to help with that not happening. But she will send me to a mental health specialist to talk about is. In the biggining I refused but honestly I decided that if it helps I want to try. I am at bed rest since 24 weeks with lots of time to worry about it. So far it was a very dificulty pregnancy with non stop health issues. Maybe talking to somebody will help me be more calm and stress less.

It's actually quite common. You'll just be told to stop pushing, doctor will unwrap the cord from baby's neck and you'll keep going. My friend didn't even know her baby had his wrapped around until 3 days after he was born and her husband mentioned it

I think about this too but most babies do survive so I don't think it's hugely common. I'm not sure there's much we could do about it anyway, other than keeping track of movement as best we can so we can detect if there are any deviations.
