Is a little wine ok when your pregnant and or breastfeeding?

Just herd a lot of controversial statements from physicians and doulas and midwives some say 1 glass during dinner is fine, then others say No to stay always from all types of alcohol during pregnancy and breastfeeding, just wanted to know you ladies opinion on this.

In other countries, where the term moderation is actually understood, small amounts of wine is considered fine for pregnant women. My midwife says half a glass is ok. I've also been told my 2 different OBs when I was over due with my 2 previous pregnancies to "have a glass of wine and a warm bath (not hot!) and relax:-) I did try it at the end of my first, and it helped a bit, but I don't really drink that much not pregnant and it doesn't really taste good to me while pregnant at all :-( cautionary note to any ladies thinking of trying this at home, tho. A Glass of wine is 4oz, making half a glass 2oz. We are not talking about a lot of alcohol here. That is what is dangerous to babies, mommy getting drunk. Fetal alcohol syndrome is caused by significant and almost always multiple episodes of alcohol abuse.

During breastfeeding, as long as ur not drunk while doing it, ur baby is fine. Breastmilk is replenished as it is being used and continues directly after. Everyone processes alcohol a bit differently tho, so know ur body and assume u are a lightweight if starting back to drinking after a long abstinence. There are also strips that u can use to check ur milk before nursing.

That's my take on the subject... now u can all tell me how there is "no proven safe amount" and how stopping for 9mos is the least we can do...

These are two different questions imo. No during pregnancy, yes while breastfeeding if you wait until it clears your system before the next feed.

From what I have read, there is no safe amount of alcohol when you are pregnant, but a small amount (the occasional glass) is unlikely to cause a problem. For me, personally, it's not worth the risk, but I have friends that indulged once in a blue moon and I don't judge them for it. Plus their babies turned out fine. I'm not really sure about drinking while nursing though. I would avoid it to be safe. My mom told me once that a long time ago they used to say a beer once in a while was actually good for breast milk, but I would not be surprised if that is wildly outdated, lol!

This question bothers me. Two TOTALLY DIFFERENT scenarios, pregnant vs breastfeeding! It is okay to drink some while breastfeeding (in fact some say a beer can help you lactate). It is absolutely 100% not okay to drink while pregnant! Your baby is depending on your blood flow to grow into a human- not a time to pass alcohol to them. The amount of alcohol that passes through your milk, however, is pretty minuscule.

I've heard while breast feeding it's fine " if your okay to drive you're okay to feed " but I nvr heard it was okay while pregnant .. that's a difficult topic because either way the baby has some alcohol intake .. if it were me I'd pump enough for at least 2 to 4 hours so a good 2 or 3 feedings which also depends on how much I planned to drink so everyone wins lol .

I have been around d alot of kids and adulrs with FASD and it's not something I would ever risk...I don't know about how much gets in breast milk though :-)
