Birth Control! Are you on the IUD?

First time ever being on birth control. Got the IUD today... Heard some horror stories about it and now I'm freaking out. Anyone on here that has the IUD and never had problems? TIA

I lived my Paragard before I got pregnant... Hated the Mirena... The hormones were a nightmare to my body.

Getting mirena was painful but a quick sharp pain followed by some spotting and cramping. I then bled for a while, several weeks, but it died back, got one period 3 months later, one more 3 months after that then nothing for 3 years. Not having af every month was great, no mood swings or cramps or mess. My hormones got messed up for some unknown reason, had mirena removed after 4 years in order to ttc. Been 2 years 6 months with 2 miscarriages and no explanations why, had EVERYTHING tested. I don't think I'll bother with bc at all anymore since I have such trouble even getting pregnant now.

I'm honestly terrified of a iud and I've had 3 kids lol I stuck to my depo shot I feel way more comfortable with that but even if you don't like it you can always get it taken out

I will remove my IUD this week I have been with it for a year and the hormones are messing me up. I get mad for silly little things and I cry for no reason. Not to mention my back hurts really bad. This month I had really bad cramps and I had some brown discharge. It didn't work good for me. :(

I absolutely loved my iud and will be getting it again after the birth, I never had any issues with it and it is just super convenient.

Mine was in place for a year and half and fell.out somehow because they couldn't find it and within three days of it being gone I was pregnant. I now have a five year old little girl :)

I am on the mirena IUD. I first got it placed in 2012 because I didn't want to take a pill for BC and my OB/GYN highly recommended it for my situation. I was 16, had only had sex once, and I had never had kids. The placement was painful, but luckily the painful part lasts less than a minute and only felt as bad as my worst menstual cramps. I had light spotting on and off for a few weeks after the placement, but my periods stopped entirely once the spotting died down.

After a few months I noticed the IUD was out of place (you check by feeling for the strings- I felt rigid plastic instead of just fishing-wire strings). When my OB/GYN did the ultrasound to see if the IUD was really out of place (it was), he also found a decent sized cyst (6.5cm) on one of my ovaries. We waited 6 weeks and the cyst only grew so we scheduled my surgery to have it removed. On the day of my surgery, they removed my misplaced IUD and placed a brand new one, all while I was under anesthesia. The cyst, however, was no where to be seen and had likely gone away on it's own.

The second IUD has stayed in place and is due to come out within the next year. My periods have started to return within the past 5 months or so, but it's been very minimal (TBH too minimal to justify buying anything more than panty liners). I've started getting some cramping on my periods too, but when I didn't bleed at all I never noticed any symptoms of PMS.

My husband can't feel it. I can't feel it. I never buy feminine products. I don't have any unwanted pregnancies. I don't have to stress about remembering to take a pill. I would highly recommend the IUD.

The most common complaint I hear is the pain upon placement- if you can handle a piercing or a tattoo you can definitely handle the placement.
