C-section or vaginal birth after tear

With my first daughter that was born 5 years ago, I had a 4th degree tear. I healed well, but now that I'm pregnant again the doctors are asking if I want to have a c-section. They are saying if I have another bad tear it could lead to issues like incontinence with bowel movements which sounds terrible. I really don't want a c-section though.... Anyone go through something similar??
