very irregular period TTC

So my fiancé and I have decided to start trying to get pregnant for the past 4-5 months or so. I know this is probably going to be a long road for me as I ha e a very irregular period. Sometimes I get it every months... sometimes every couple months... I even gone as long as every 3 months! My mom had the same issue with irregular so it is genetic but she successfully had 3 kids. It's so irritating because I never know when I'm ovulating!! I jhave st moved to the area so in the process of getting new docs and looking into a GYN- anybody have any tips from r me as far as tracking ovulation when you're so irregular? I'm feeling like this is going to be a long depressing road. Blah.
