checking cervix

How in the hell do you ladies check your cervix! I wouldn't even know what to check for. When I try to check I just don't even know what to feel for so here's what's going on with me. Ino I can get pregnant I'm just bd at the wrong times because I have 3 kids but I normally have a 30, 29 day cycle. My period started on 3rd of November and ended the 7th well today I used my very first ovulation test from first response and there was no detection? Could I of already ovulated or I haven't yet?
