cervical sweep

I'm 40w 3D and today I had a cervical membrane sweep which was really painful that I couldn't control myself and yelled out abit is it normal for it to be so painful it's making me think I might not be up for natural childbirth as I was planning without the epidural. Also my cervix is posterior and I been told I have not even started dilating.. could this be the reason it hurt so much. Bit worried 😩
