Spotting instead of period

I need some advice, please! My app says I should be on Day 5 of my menstrual cycle and the app is usually right on when I should start; however, since Monday I have only spotted brown and still today have not had an actual period. Anyone familiar with this!? I normally have very heavy cycles, and this month it is like this so I am confused. Any insight would be great! Thanks y'all
