Who is hiring a doula?

Question

I am attempting a VBAC and would like to try and have an unmedicated birth. I am very interested in hiring a doula for extra support.  Who is hiring a doula or who has gone through the birthing process with a doula?
I'd like to know if those who had a doula had a good experience and if it was worth the money.

I have a doula! I'm also trying to go unmedicated and I think that having someone to coach you (and your partner) is a vital part! As I saw someone put in earlier, why not stack the deck in your favour? Do everything you can to ensure you'll have the support you'll need. So far my doula has been very helpful, informative, and a great resource. She isn't pushy or overbearing and she let's my husband and me make our decisions without influencing or trying to force us to pick one thing over another. She's an advocate for us and my birth and she wants it to go the way I want it to go. I would highly recommend interviewing some and seeing what they are all about in person, it may help you make your decision.

A coworker said it was like using a wedding planner. Not totally necessary, but makes everything go much more smoothly.

I'm trying to go all natural and unmediated and so far she seems great and makes me feel confident.

I hired my doula in October. I'm due in March. My doula only takes 2 clients per month so she can really focus on them. She's been awesome so far. Any questions I have, I can email her or text her and she gets back to me super fast. I'm definitely grateful for her.

I wanted to get a doula, but my husband was like "well I can do it!" We bought the book "husband coached childbirth", so we'll see lol...
