Period while on Depo shot

Is it possible for you to bleed an extended amount of time? This is my first month of birthcontrol and I started my period almost on schedule (I got my shot when my period was a day late, after the fourth day of being late I started). My average cycle is usually 5 days. The first day I was barely spotting, second day was pretty heavy at first then went to my normal flow, anr today is my third day and its average. I was wondering if my birth control (Depo shot) can extend the length and days of my cycle.
