Ladies, is having a doula worth the money? Or was your labor fine without one?

I would highly recommend. If you're planning a drug free birth a doula will help keep you calm, give you coping techniques, and help you relax. Labour is a whole body experience and you need people that make you feel comfortable, respected, and loved. A doula can really help be a rock for you, especially if you're worried your husband won't make it through labour haha. You can also ask them questions and concerns you have before birth. I've already contacted mine twice for concerns I had and she helped me with advice and put my mind at ease. They are a great resource of information and recommendations. There's no harm in interviewing some and seeing if you connect with anyone. I hired mine at 28 weeks, so don't think you can be too far along to get one.

A doula should be really helpful.  Ours wasn't, but she was still in training. Interview as many as you can until you find somebody you really like.

Im going to have one. Only having my SO with me at birth and hes rubbish with dealing with people in pain/distress. He will probably faint so I'll need a doula for support and company haha

I didn't have one but really wish I could have afforded one. I read as much as I could about labor but once it started I went into panic mode. My "team" if you will was my husband, mother, and a friend who was supposed to be my birth photographer but didn't take many pictures. Between my mom getting in my face and giving me outdated and useless advice and my friend also trying to mother me I was just not in a good spot. Next time around I'm doing things much differently and hopefully that includes a doula.
