Do cervix checks predict anything about impending labor?

I was 1 cm dilated when I went into the L&D unit because of a fall. Everything turned out fine.

I was 1.5 cm dilated and 50% effaced a week later at my OB appointment.

Now a week and a half later, at 37+4 weeks I'm 3 cm dilated and 65% effaced.

I've been measuring 2 weeks ahead almost the entire pregnancy. Baby was measuring about 6 lbs on the ultrasound at the L&D unit 3 weeks ago (which is know is an estimate).

Does any of this mean that labor is right around the corner? Like earlier than my 40 weeks mark? I really hope it is. Can't wait to hold my little baby boy and also tie my own shoes again.
