Group b-strep?

I just got a call from my doctor that I tested positive for group b strep. I'm really scared because I don't know what it means. I live an hour and a half away from any hospital. I'm progressing like normal and dilating. I'm 38 weeks and im concerned because I have to have an Iv of antibiotics for so long before my water breaks. I'm not sure if this means I will have to possibly have an induction? Anyone have a similar experience?

Nope! I've had two unmedicated deliveries with strep b. It's fine. The antibiotics prevent it from effecting baby. With my second I actually didn't get the full dose of meds, so I was kept an extra day to be monitored and we were fine!

I had this and was told it's just a yeast infection and was put on antibiotics as I was in labor.

I'm only 18 weeks and 4 days day last week they told me I had it too..they have me a week's supply of antibiotics to take now and then apparently I have to have it again at delivery...I'm just as nervous!!

I tested positive as well.  My dr told me that if my water broke than I needed to go to the hospital to get antibiotics. He also said if I didn't break my water but went into labor to stay home and labor at home as long as I can. The morning of my delivery, my water broke at 5am I called labor and delivery they said to walk around for 30 mins and call them back.  We wanted to be sure it was my water and I hadnt peed myself.  They told me I only needed the antibiotics 4 hours prior to birth so i had time. My suggestion to you is if you think your water broke, put a pad on,  and call your hospital or where everyou are delivering. The drs know you've tested positive so they will keep an eye on your baby after is born if you have had the antibiotics or not.  Try not to stress to much over it
